Colombian band Morat is turning its upcoming series of sold-out concerts in Bogotá into an opportunity to support communities affected by the powerful earthquake that struck Colombia earlier this week.
The group announced Tuesday that it will donate a portion of the proceeds from its six upcoming concerts at Bogotá’s Movistar Arena to help rebuild schools damaged by the earthquake. Morat will also establish donation stations at the venue, allowing fans attending the shows to contribute directly to relief efforts.
The initiative will take place during the band’s concerts scheduled for August 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. All six shows are sold out and form part of Morat’s residency at the Movistar Arena as well as the launch of the group’s Ya Es Mañana World Tour.
Music Becomes a Platform for Solidarity
According to a statement from Morat’s team, four donation points will be installed inside and around the Movistar Arena during the concerts.
Fans will be able to make monetary contributions to support emergency response and recovery efforts following the earthquake. The funds collected through the donation stations will be channeled through UNICEF.
In addition to the contributions made by concertgoers, Morat will allocate part of the revenue generated by the six Bogotá performances toward the reconstruction of schools affected by the disaster.
The decision gives the band’s highly anticipated Bogotá residency an added purpose at a difficult moment for Colombia.
Six Sold-Out Shows in Bogotá
The concerts were already expected to represent an important milestone for Morat. The Bogotá-born band is preparing to perform six sold-out nights at one of Colombia’s most prominent indoor venues, bringing thousands of fans together as it begins a new chapter with the Ya Es Mañana World Tour.
Now, those performances will also become a collective show of support for communities facing the aftermath of the earthquake.
For Morat — whose members Juan Pablo Isaza, Juan Pablo Villamil, Simón Vargas and Martín Vargas have taken Colombian pop to audiences around the world — the initiative also provides an opportunity to use their platform at home at a moment when solidarity and resources are urgently needed.
Supporting Colombia Beyond the Stage
The earthquake that struck Monday affected several regions of Colombia, damaging infrastructure and disrupting communities across the country. As recovery efforts continue, attention is increasingly turning from the immediate emergency response toward the longer process of rebuilding.
Schools are particularly important to that recovery. Restoring educational facilities can help communities regain stability and allow children and families to gradually return to their daily routines.
