Anuel AA and Karol G Give Work From Home New Meaning With New Songs and Music Video

Sometimes when we feel like our lives have been turned upside-down, the most natural thing to do is to return to the habits that make us feel comfortable. This manifests in many different ways, but in Anuel AA and Karol G’s case, it’s making music. The Latin power couple has been social distancing in their apartment, and taking this time to get creative.

On her part, Karol tapped Anuel to write and record her first single of the year titled “Follow,” complete with a music video they both directed and produced in their home, showing the couple’s daily life during this time — once again giving fans an exclusive window into their relationship.

“While at home under quarantine, we couldn’t stop making music,” Karol G said in a press release. “We wanted to create a song that was cool and fresh for our fans with a video that shows how we are overcoming the reality that we are all going through. We are thinking of all of our fans out there and hope you’re staying safe and healthy during this time.”

“Follow” comes after Karol G’s smash hit “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, making it the first all-female collaboration to do so. “Follow” continues to have the “Tusa” effect and became an instant international success, debuting as the most viewed video on YouTube worldwide.

The song is the third collaboration between Anuel AA and Karol G, after their highly acclaimed songs, “Culpables” and “Secreto.”

Meanwhile, Anuel AA has also been working on a more personal track, his new single “3 de Abril,” which he released today, April 3. It commemorates the fourth anniversary of his arrest for gun possession charges. The song is the most vulnerable we’ve seen Anuel yet. While he’s known for his extravagant personality on camera, his personal life has always been surrounded by mystery.

With “3 de Abril” Anuel finally tells his side of the story, from his difficult adolescence and all the things that led him on the wrong path, to how he managed to survive the rough times, to his wake-up call to reform his life and stay focused on his passion.

Produced by Yampi and Ovy on the Drums, this song is Anuel’s promise to his fans to go back to his original sound, lyrics, and underground style that made him the Spanish trap pioneer.

Bill Withers, ‘Lean On Me’ and ‘Lovely Day’ singer, has died at 81

Bill Withers, the singer-songwriter whose soulful hits “Lean On Me,” Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Lovely Day” became part of the soundtrack for a generation, has died.He was 81.

Withers died Monday in Los Angeles of heart complications, according to his family. “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other,” his family said in a statement obtained by CNN. “As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world.

In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.”His songs have been considered timeless and “Lean On Me” has experienced a resurgence during the coronavirus pandemic because of its uplifting message of community support.”Bill Withers is the closest thing black people have to a Bruce Springsteen,” musician Quest Love told Rolling Stone in 2015.Withers passing was mourned Friday across musical genres and walks of life on Twitter.

“Rest in power Bill Withers. Your voice, songs, and total expression gave us love, hope, and strength,” rocker Lenny Kravitz tweeted.

“My soul always has & always will be full of your music. Your humility displayed & depth of your power as you carried us all to a better place. You’re still & always will be Bill.”Born in Slab Fork, West Virginia, Withers overcame a stutter as a child and joined the Navy as a teen. After a nine year stint in the military, Withers moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to pursue a career in music, taking a job at the Boeing aircraft company where he made toilet seats during the day.

At night Withers cut demos and eventually met the head of Sussex Records, the now famed music impresario Clarence Avant.Wither’s first album, “Just As I Am,” was released in 1971 and included the singles “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Grandma’s Hands.””Ain’t No Sunshine” was a hit and in 1972 Withers took home a Grammy for the single. That same year, “Lean On Me,” a song Withers wrote after being inspired by his childhood growing up in West Virginia, went to No. 1 on the R&B chart. The hit has since been covered by several other artists, including Club Nouveau. Their version won Withers a Grammy in 1987 as the songwriter.

The song is also the theme for the 1989 Morgan Freeman film of the same name and was performed at the inaugurations for both President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama. His 1972 album, “Still Bill,” launched another hit with “Use Me.”A legal battle with Sussex led to him signing with Columbia Records where he recorded “Lovely Day” as part of the 1977 album, “Menagerie.” Withers co-wrote the 1980 hit “Just The Two of Us,” which he recorded with saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. The tune won him his second best R&B song Grammy in 1981.Withers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.His songwriting ability was as hailed as his singing.

“We lost a giant of songwriting today,” Paul Williams, president and chairman of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers said in a statement. “Bill Withers’ songs are among the most treasured and profound in the American songbook — universal in the way they touch people all over the world, transcending genre and generation. “”He was a beautiful man with a stunning sense of humor and a gift for truth,” Williams added. “I will miss him personally as will the entire ASCAP family. We love you, Bill.

Our hearts go out to his family.”In 1973 Withers made headlines when he married “Room 222” actress Denise Nicholas but the couple divorced a year later. He married Marcia Johnson in 1976 and is survived by her and their son and daughter, Todd and Kori.

Ricky Martin, J Balvin, Daddy Yankee & More Latin Artists Encourage Fans to Stay Home Amid Coronavirus

Many Latin artists, including Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin and others, are using their platforms to encourage fans to stay home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) global outbreak.

Since its outbreak at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, China, more than 80,000 people have contracted the disease, resulting in more than 2,700 deaths according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Over 1,600 cases have been reported in the U.S. at press time, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

As the disease continues to spread, the CDC recommends that organizers cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the U.S. for the next eight weeks. This is why many artists, such as Maluma, Aventura, Karol G, and Jorge Drexler, in addition to music festivals such as Coachella, are canceling or postponing their events.

Basic protective measures against the novel coronavirus, according to WHO, include washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, maintaining social distancing at least three feet between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing, and avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.

To help prevent the outbreak, many Latin artists are also asking their fans to stay home. On Instagram stories, Becky G told her fans “now is not a time for panic but to ground yourself. Our current state of the nation is not something to take lightly.”

Karol G and Anuel AA spent their weekend at home listening to reggaeton music and playing video games, while Alejandro Sanz and Juanes, who both had to reschedule their weekend shows, provided a Livestream concert to fans via YouTube.

Via Twitter, J Balvin said: “It’s our responsibility to say home and take care of each other. This too will pass.”

Via a video posted on Instagram, Ricky Martin asks his fans to please take responsible actions and stay at home, giving an example of close friends he has in China and Italy.

A conscious Daddy Yankee social distanced himself over the weekend by jumping on his boat and enjoying nature in Puerto Rico. “It’s a tough challenge the world is facing but I know we will overcome it as the strong humans that we are,” he said.

Over at Twitter, Karol G told her fans that her upcoming concerts have been suspended because their health comes first. She cleverly used her song “TUSA” to send the message across too.

Celebrating his 28th birthday on a boat and with some bachata tunes in the background, Ozuna filmed a video thanking his fans for their birthday wishes. He also admitted he was a bit under the weather and hoped to not have the coronavirus. At the end of the clip, he told his fans to pray during these difficult times.

Another artist who is staying at home amid COVID-19 is Sebastian Yatra. The Colombian singer serenaded his fans on Instagram, performing a cover of Shawn Mendes’ “Never Be Alone” and an acoustic version of his own single “No Hay Nadie Mas.”

iHeartRadio Music Awards Have Been Postponed

The iHeartRadio Music Awards is being postponed amid the coronavirus outbreak. Usher had been set to host the seventh annual awards show, which was scheduled to air live on Fox on Sunday, March 29, from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

However, the Shrine has announced that it would be officially closed for events at least until March 31, leading iHeartMedia to postpone the awards show.

“The safety of our guests, employees, artists and partners is our main priority,” an iHeartMedia rep said in a statement. “iHeartMedia and Fox will plan to reschedule at the appropriate time and will provide more information and relevant updates as they become available. Refunds are being issued to ticketed guests.”

The news follows the cancellation or postponement of major events including E3, Coachella, SXSW, MIPTV, CinemaCon and more, as many companies allow their staffers to work from home or limit face-to-face business meetings and unnecessary travel.

It’s not the only awards show being impacted. Earlier this month, Canada’s music-centric Juno Awards were canceled, as was the GLAAD Media Awards in New York and the Razzie Awards in Los Angeles while the Kids’ Choice Awards (Los Angeles) and the ACM Awards (Las Vegas) were postponed. The BAFTA Games Awards (London) is moving to a live stream.

Usher also was set to perform during the iHeartRadio Music Awards, in addition to Halsey, Lizzo and Justin Bieber, among others. Artists receiving multiple nominations included Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Daddy Yankee, Dan + Shay, Drake, Ed Sheeran, El Fantasma, Halsey, J Balvin, Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Khalid, Kygo, Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Post Malone, Selena Gomez, SHAED, Shawn Mendes, Snow, Summer Walker and Taylor Swift.
