The state legislator promoting the initiative, which aims to benefit single mothers, spoke with Billboard Español.

On Tuesday (April 14), the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico presented the initiative known as the Cazzu Law to the Mexican Chamber of Deputies — a proposal seeking to amend Article 4 of the Constitution to guarantee the right to mobility for children and adolescents in cases of parental abandonment.

According to Deputy Ernesto Núñez Aguilar — the party’s leader in the state of Michoacán, where the proposal originated — the obstacles faced by parents who are victims of this issue include the refusal to sign a passport; the obstruction of a move to a different city that offers better living conditions; and the hindering of school-related procedures or school transfers. This reform “is not directed against anyone, but rather in favor of those who do fulfill their obligations — and, above all, in favor of children — so that their development is never again compromised by abandonment,” the lawmaker said during his address.

PREVIOUSLY (April 10): The session in Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies — where representatives of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico were scheduled to present a bill on Thursday (April 9) to guarantee the right to child mobility in cases of parental abandonment, known as the Cazzu Law — was postponed at the last minute due to reasons beyond the party’s control, a spokesperson confirmed to Billboard Español on Friday (April 10). The party spokesperson stated that the initiative is scheduled to be presented during upcoming legislative sessions, though no specific date was provided.

PREVIOUSLY (April 9): The dispute over the travel permit for the daughter shared by Argentine urban music star Cazzu and regional Mexican idol Christian Nodal has put a widespread issue on the legislative agendas of both countries, inspiring a bill aimed at guaranteeing children’s right to mobility in cases of parental abandonment.
