The Mexican-American star is proudly cheering for both Mexico and the United States as the FIFA World Cup brings nations together across North America.
Becky G is embracing every moment of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, proudly supporting both Mexico and the United States while celebrating her Mexican-American heritage during the tournament hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.
Speaking in a recent interview with Whistle, the singer opened up about what the historic tournament means to her and why she feels connected to both national teams.
“I’m a proud Chicana. I’m Mexican-American,” Becky G said, reflecting on her unique cultural identity.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, the “MAMIII” hitmaker described the atmosphere surrounding the World Cup as unforgettable.
“It’s been quite the festivities,” she shared. “Throughout all of the city, seeing so many communities come together to experience this World Cup. And to know that we are from one of the hosting countries, and then actually got to be the opener in Mexico. I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything as magical.”
The singer has experienced the tournament firsthand, attending Mexico’s opening match against South Africa at Estadio Azteca on June 11 before heading to Los Angeles to watch the United States face Paraguay at SoFi Stadium the following day.
As the competition continues, Becky G remains equally passionate about both nations.
“It’s the pride that we take to be from where we’re from, and as a 200 percenter, I have two flags to represent, and I feel so honored and grateful for that,” she explained.
She also recalled an emotional World Cup moment involving South African superstar Tyla, her collaborator on “On My Body.”
“Something that really moved me was when I was in Mexico, and my dear friend, Tyla, sang the national anthem for her country,” Becky G said. “Her team and my team were competing against each other. It was so beautiful to get to see a peer of mine… take on such a huge honor for her country, and to get to do that made me a bit emotional.”
When asked to choose the ultimate World Cup anthem, Becky G surprised fans by selecting a patriotic classic instead of a pop hit.
“My heart immediately goes to ‘This Land Is Your Land; This Land Is My Land,'” she said, referring to Woody Guthrie’s iconic song.
She added that the lyrics reflect the multicultural spirit of the United States and the welcoming environment that has shaped generations of immigrants.
“This really is a space that is meant for, inspired by and made by so many people and countries that come to the United States. People are coming to this place for that warm welcome of what it is to be in this land of opportunity.”
With both Mexico and the United States still in the tournament, Becky G continues to represent what she proudly calls being a “200 percenter”—celebrating two cultures, two countries, and one unforgettable World Cup experience.
