Music icon expected to return for Pittsburgh concert after doctors recommend rest
Legendary singer Lionel Richie has postponed two upcoming performances on his current North American tour after experiencing a dizzy spell during his opening night concert, prompting doctors to advise him to temporarily step away from the stage.
According to a statement released by Live Nation Chicago on Thursday (June 25), Richie will postpone his scheduled performances in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, as he focuses on recovering and returning to full health.
“Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans,” the statement read. “We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”
Despite the setback, Richie is still expected to resume the tour with his scheduled performance in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, June 30, pending his continued recovery.
Onstage incident raises concerns
The announcement follows an unexpected moment during the opening night of Lionel Richie’s co-headlining tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in St. Paul, Minnesota.
During the performance, Richie reportedly told the audience that he was feeling dizzy but initially attempted to continue the show. After briefly sitting down on stage, he eventually left for an intermission. Approximately 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo informed concertgoers that Richie would not be able to return to complete the performance.
The incident immediately sparked concern among fans, many of whom took to social media to express their support and wish the music legend a speedy recovery.
Fans await new concert dates
Fans holding tickets for the postponed concerts in Chicago and Columbus have been advised to hold onto their tickets while organizers work on announcing new performance dates.
Neither Richie’s representatives nor tour organizers have disclosed additional details regarding the cause of the dizziness, though doctors have recommended that the five-time Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper take time to rest before returning to the stage.
A career that continues to inspire
At 77, Lionel Richie remains one of the most beloved performers in popular music. From his years with the Commodores to his remarkable solo career, the Grammy-winning artist continues to captivate audiences around the world with timeless classics such as Hello, All Night Long (All Night), Say You, Say Me, and Endless Love.
