The powerful earthquake had its epicenter near San José del Palmar, in Colombia’s Chocó department, approximately 250 miles west of Bogotá, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The impact was felt across several parts of the country, including Pereira, Quibdó, Cali and Manizales, as well as neighboring Ecuador and Panama.
Early reports indicated widespread structural damage and a rising human toll, with emergency and rescue operations continuing across affected communities.
