Rosalía is giving fans a deeper look into the musical inspiration behind “La Perla,” revealing that one of Mexico’s most legendary heartbreak anthems played a crucial role in shaping the song.
During the opening night of her five-show run at Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City on Saturday, Aug. 22, the Spanish superstar told the audience that “La Perla” owes much of its existence to Paquita la del Barrio and her iconic song “Rata de Dos Patas.”
The revelation came as Rosalía discussed the inspiration behind the biting lyrics aimed at the “emotional terrorist” at the center of “La Perla.” Known for her fearless approach to heartbreak, betrayal and toxic relationships, Paquita became a cultural icon through songs that directly confronted men who had caused emotional pain.
“Rata de Dos Patas,” in particular, remains one of the late Mexican singer’s most recognizable recordings, famous for its uncompromising lyrics and dramatic delivery.
