George Clooney and his family have been forced to evacuate their home in southeastern France after a wildfire broke out near their property, raising concerns about the safety of homes and communities in the region.
According to Clooney’s publicist, Guido Gotz, the Academy Award-winning actor informed local officials of the evacuation in a heartfelt letter addressed to Didier Bremond, the mayor of Brignoles, a town located about 90 kilometers (55 miles) east of Marseille.
In the letter, Clooney and his wife, renowned human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, expressed uncertainty about the fate of their home while offering their unwavering support to the local community.
“We have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” Clooney wrote. “Whatever happens to the community, we’ll be part of making it whole.”
Wildfire Prompts Emergency Evacuations
The wildfire ignited Wednesday afternoon near Brignoles, quickly consuming approximately 100 hectares (250 acres) of land, according to local authorities.
While significantly smaller than the devastating wildfires affecting the Bordeaux region in southwestern France, the blaze still prompted precautionary evacuations for around 700 residents.
Firefighters successfully brought the wildfire under control by Thursday, allowing residents to return home. However, officials warned that the danger has not completely passed.
Water-dropping helicopters continue monitoring the area, and regional authorities have cautioned that high temperatures, dry conditions, and strengthening winds could increase the risk of flare-ups.
The Clooneys’ Home in France
George and Amal Clooney purchased their French estate in 2021, transforming the countryside property into their family’s primary residence.
The couple has been living there with their twins, Ella and Alexander, enjoying a quieter lifestyle away from Hollywood.
In an interview with Esquire last year, Clooney referred to the property simply as “our farm in France,” describing it as the place where the family now spends most of its time.
The family’s ties to France deepened even further when the French government granted French citizenship to George, Amal, and their children in December.
Standing With the Community
Even as they faced the uncertainty of losing their own home, the Clooneys focused their message on solidarity with their neighbors.
Their letter emphasized a commitment not only to their property but also to helping Brignoles recover from the disaster, regardless of the wildfire’s outcome.
The statement reflects the couple’s long-standing involvement in humanitarian causes and community support, values that have become central to both George Clooney’s public life and Amal Clooney’s international human rights work.
Wildfires Continue to Challenge France
The evacuation comes as France continues to battle an increasingly severe wildfire season fueled by extreme heat and dry weather conditions.
Authorities remain on alert across several regions, with firefighters continuing efforts to contain multiple blazes and prevent new outbreaks as temperatures remain high.
For the Clooney family, the immediate priority is safety. While the extent of any damage to their estate has not yet been confirmed, their message makes one thing clear: protecting lives and supporting the community matters far more than any property.
