Lewis Capaldi shares health update, will continue touring hiatus in 2024

The singer announced he was taking a break in June to deal with his struggles with anxiety and Tourette’s syndrome.

Six months after announcing he was taking a break from touring, Lewis Capaldi has given a health update to his fans.

The Grammy-nominated singer ended the year on a positive note with a social media post revealing his significant health improvements and new music to kick off 2024.

“As most of you will know, I’m currently taking some time off to focus on my health and well-being and it’s been going great,” Capaldi wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I’ve been working with some incredible professionals to help me learn about and cope better with Tourette’s and anxiety issues. I’m really happy to say I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.”

Capaldi went on to thank fans for their overwhelming support and their response to his second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent. He then revealed that a new edition of the record, with five additional songs, will be available at midnight on Jan. 1.

“Prior to my decision to f— off for a bit, I’d always hoped to release an extended version at some point!” Capaldi wrote. “After some back-and-forth about whether or not it was the right thing to do, I’ve decided it would be a shame for these five extra songs, which are so incredibly special to me, to sit on my hard drive, never to see the light of day.”

But Capaldi clarified that his hiatus will continue into 2024.

“For now I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some new music, and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life,” he explained. “I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100 percent before getting back out there properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!”

Capaldi has been open about his various health struggles, including anxiety, imposter syndrome, and his battle with Tourette’s syndrome, which produces involuntary body movements and vocal outbursts.

During an emotional set at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival  in June, he was unable to finish a performance of his hit song “Someone You Love.” After fans stepped in to sing for him, Capaldi was visibly moved by the response.

The singer announced his touring hiatus the following week, writing on social media, “I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s, and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”
